Thanks for clearing that up Agent.

When Express Vu first started the Rental Program I seem to remember the cost was $5 for a 3100, I could be wrong but pretty sure it was higher than it is even now.?

Nimiq1 I suscribed a few years ago...

Back then Vocatel was responsible for their rental programm...I was renting 2 3100. The first one was 10.99$with a 4$ credit and the second 7.99$ with a 2$ credit.

When Express Vu decided to take care of their rental themselves clients weren't automatically transferred. I was paying that price until I started my training at Express Vu. One of the class was about the receivers, their prices and different foncionalities...the team introducing the 4100 said it was 2.50$ on rental. I said WHAT? I taught they had made a mistake...then the trainer explained me the thing about the rental programm. The only way to get the prices was to return the receiver and get new ones. I returned my 2 3100 and traded them for a 5900, which was cheaper for me...

I had to pay the 75$ install, but at same time got the installer to all Nimiq2 upgrade

A few months later all clients on the old rental program were transferred to the new programm (to their surprise!) wch lowered their bill

We don't see lowering of bills too often without warning do we.?

Did ALL customers have to replace their receivers.?

I do not think Vocatel are in Ontario, so I am not sure of the History of the Rental Scheme over here.

Ok heres a quick info on the story...
2 year contract, 1st year of IRD rentals free. Well as of a few days ago my rentals are no longer free. No problem i don't mind. So me and my wife were talking and she brought up to me that we should get the SD-PVR. Now my question is will Bell let me swapp one of my 4 SD 4100 rentals in exchange of a PVR? I don't care about paying more to rent, i just want to know if i can do it without being penalized, and how quick can i get one of these babbies?

Since you have a 2 years contract on the rental of units you will have a early rental termination fee...

I know it is stupid, since renting the 4100 only brings them 3$/month versus the PVR 5900 who would bring them a 10$/month

Best thing would be that you just keep the 4100, unplug it and add PVR

If you want you would have to pay 50$ rental certificate on a credit card, which would be refunded on the next bill...also you would have to pay a tech to install the receiver, which is 75$. There too know it doesn't make sense, all there is to do is unplugging 2 cables and replugging them, but that's the policy

hmm that was a little confusing. So if i just keep the 4100 and toss it in the closet for the next year lol.. then i have to pay $75 for the tech to make me miss a day of work to install something a 2 year old could do... Is there any refund for that?? and what is that $50 charge?

and BTW.. i have the rental protection for the 4100 so its only like 2 bucks or 2.50 if that makes any difference at all..

Do you get charged a fee if you are under contract and you decide to change receivers? I'm not under any "deal" other than maybe price protection....

Agent is quite correct.

$75 fee is because it is a Rental 5900, there should be no store that carry Rental equipment, there are a few exceptions but not many.

The $50 is for the Rental Certificate, refundable on your next bill I believe.

Net cost to you is $75 PLUS $10 per Month for a Minimum period of 1 Year (existing Customers get a 1 Year contract), then don't forget you will still pay $3 per month for the 4100 sitting in your closet.

So, to recap, the cost to you over the 1 year period will be;

Installation $ 75
Rental 5900 12 x $10 = $ 120
Rental 4100 12 x $3 = $ 36

Total = $231

I would be looking to BUY a 5900 for $249 and just install it yourself.!!

If you are referring to a rental, then I believe it has been answered earlier in the post.

If you are referring to purchased units, then it depends on which package you are on. Old (legacy?) subscriber would have to pay the $4.99 (or wahtever it is) additional receiver fee if you only had one previously but I think you are now forced to move to a current package instead which includes this fee.

I guess it also depends on what you mean by "change". Are you adding another rental or purchased unit or are you replacing an existing rental or purchased unit?

hmm..
We were talking about this last nite also.. my wife is insistant that we move back to cable.. But with 5 Tv's.. that would run me a pretty penny..
3 SD terminal rentals, 1 PVR, and an HD box ( i'd have to sell my 6100)
I have that price guarentee on the 4100 rentals until my contract runs out so its not to bad. Im just kinda pissed that they want 75 bucks for a dude to come to my house, waste my time for something i could do blind folded lol..

Doing calculations for that.. With rogers i would be paying 47.75 In Terminal Rental Fees alone... YIKES!! ... not to mention Addional Outlet fees, plus the overall package that would cost me more money then wat i pay now and i would get less channels.. So that 75 bucks doesnt look bad.. But still.. Money down the drain..

Look at it as a Delivery Charge.....lol

I would still consider buying, you might even find a Refurbushed unit if you call Bell.! That would save you $50.

policies like this seem to do more harm, than good
i dont know why, if a loyal, paying customer, wants to pay MORE money, for a better receiver, they are told NO!
wouldnt it be in bells best interest to say "we have a policy in place, and unfortunately it does not allow for changes during your 2 year contract, however, seeing as you want to UPGRADE, not downgrade your receiver, we will waive this policy for you"
makes sense to me
happy customer
happy bell (getting more money from a happy customer)

Cable will offer you a deal for switching from satellite :-)

You could find a cheap SD-PVR on an auction site (you know the one) and add it to your account. Likely for about the same cost (12 x $10 rental = $120).

If you do go the rental route, I'd suggest considering the 9200 even for SD. 170 hours SD capacity and dual tuner. You could use it to feed 2 tvs. Although, the firmware in the 5900 is more stable, but the 9200 offers other benefits even with the bugs.

If you "put the 4100 in the closet" you may also get a call from EVs verification department (or wahtever they call it) since it won't be plugged into the phone line LOL.

Yes I am referring to a rental...but I am not on a package which binds channels or themes to a receiver. I thought I was able to stop the rental of any receiver of my 3 that are rented and change them if I choose to. Providing my monthly cost does not drop below a certain dollar value.

My oldest son owns the 6100 because he got him self an LCD tv a few months ago. I sometimes watch it when hes out of the house and such. Very nice HD picture. The reason he Baught his was to avoid all those dumb fees, but he regrets it because when they roll out the new Mpeg4 units he wont be able to upgrade it. I'd rather rent leaving me the option to upgrade in the future.

If they dont like the IRD in the closet, let em come get it then lol..
I would like to see them try to come in my house and take it out of my closet lol.. watch how fast someone would get a lead pipe to the head lol.
Im paying for it, Its on my property so im not breaking any rules. :P

Then the option suggested by dosborn works pretty well, Rent a 9200, mothball the 4100 and sell the 6100, while it still has a resale value and your Son can enjoy an HD PVR and you can, via the second Tuner enjoy a Dual Tuner PVR.!!

Depends partially on when it will be necessary to update.

If there isn't any reason to force you to update your unit to mpeg4 then you may be looking at paying 1,2 or 3+ years reantal ($120 - $240 per year) v.s. buying a cheap unit ($150 on average) at the equivalent of a year rental which you will be forced into anyway.

Ltldevl if you currently have a contract and change the receiver you will have early termination charges for returning the receiver...

If your contract has ended then you could return the receiver with no penalty

If you want to upgrade receiver then you have to pay the 50$ rental certificate on a credit card (100$ if you want the 9200) which is credited back on your Bell Express Vu account once you activated the receiver, also you have to pay 75$ for the technician (I know you are able to do it, it's just a matter of 2 cable, but it's the rule with rental)

hmmm.. thats a really good point. I totaly forgot that the 9200 was dual tuner!
But isnt only one television HD, and the other must be SD?

...sounds like Bell REALLLLY wants to retain customers with all those stupid clauses.... :o
