My # 1 remote has died (or so it seems), is there a way to swap the # 2 remote so it will power up the 9242? At this point the ligts come on the remote, but nada on the STB.

Find out what the remote addresses of RCVR#1 IR and RCVR#2 UHF PRO band A or B.
AUX TAB can be programmed for RCVR#1 by pressing and holding the AUX tab until all lights flash, Press "3" then the Remote Address (1-16) as in that rcvr. then press the "#" and the Aux tab should flash 3 times to verify it took.

both remotes are 5.3s. Dumb question? how do you find the remote address?
Thanks

The door on the right of the 9242 covers some buttons, press the System Info button, or press menu button twice that will give you the System info screen which shows the remote addresses.

Hi,
Unfortunately no. I did get to the Sys info screen. in box (i) the remote address is 1 and it shows "tv Ch Out as Off".

I tried using the Aux as you suggested, it seems that it need 5 digits, so I entered 00001, not working, so then I tried to just program the remote to Sat & entered 001, and, nope.

I have a spare remote from a non pvr HD receiver, and tired it as well.

So I would assume that I am missing something?

BTW, Thank you for taking the time to help.

Just try using the Sat button on the Remote and use '01' for Remote Address 1.

Any old Remote will work the receiver via IR. A UHF Remote will NOT work as the 9242 requires UHF PRO.

But you said in Post #1 that they were both 5.3 IR Remotes.?

That does not make sense.

I just programmed 48 receivers today at one location, trust me it only needs 2 digits.

Are you doing the following;

Make sure you are on the System Info Screen.

Press and hold SAT until all lights flash.
Release SAT button.
Press 01.
Press #.
If the Code entered is Valid, SAT will flash 3 times.
Press RECORD.
Remote Address on Screen will or should now show 1.

If it is, you should be able to flip the Blue Tab, the Tab's switch what type of remote it is. eg UHF PRO to IR.
But as I explained earlier the AUX can be programmed to control a Second IR only Receiver by punching in 3 before the remote address.

I am not certain as to what benefit there is to be had in swaping the tabs? There is no electronic anything in the tabs?

remote #2 now shows remt add as 1. However, the remote does not control the stb?

I guess, but my receiver seems to want to default to dual mode because I have it connected to three TVs, so I have to go through this rigmarole to get my remote #2 working in single mode.

Oops, I guess I should have put on my glasses, one is 5.3 IR and one is 6.3 IR/UHF PRO, my 3rd is 8.0 UHF PRO

SORRY

There is a hidden switch that has about 8 positions, the tabs put the switch in the right position.

OK, so it would appear you are changing the UHF PRO address for Remote #2 and for TV2.

Remove the battery cover and see if the Blue Tab can be removed, if it can see if the Green Tab can be removed from the other Remote, swap them over, re-do address again.

See if that helps.
