I just replaced the piston on my 2003 RM85. The engine itself starts up and runs great but it will not shift into gear. It is is nuetral and the shift lever and the shaft itself moves but it does not shift. I did not mess with the bottom end or the transmission at all just the top end. Why is the bike not shifting? 10 points to who ever helps me! Thanks ALOT!

Did you try to upshift it into second. If it goes up into gear sounds like the shift lever needs to be adjusted. Otherwise it sounds like the gearbox is shot.

do you realize how imposible it is to diagnose without SEEING the bike! Hey why dont you try to get a doctor to diagnose you over the net the next time your sick. TAKE IT TO A SHOP.Or since you have enough skill to do the top end get a manual and giterdone

Try shifting the bike without the engine running. First try pushing the bike back and forth slightly while trying to put it into gear, does it go into gear then? Next, try pulling in the clutch and doing the same thing. That is all I can tell you to do here. If your trans still won't shift into gear by these two methods, then you may need to either take it to a shop and have it repaired, or get the service manual and try and repair it yourself. Good luck.
