suzuki oem chrome

:roll:Does anyone else have a problem with the chrome on their bike pealing? 2007 c50 my luggage rack, backrest ,backrest mounts and tachometer are all pealing.its all oem made in china. can it be rechromed or powder coated? It started going bad after the first year now you have to watch your hands or you can get them cut.

Yep! Same problem with my luggage rack. It started with some small bubbling.
I think it has to do with their accessories moreso than the main body trim on the bike. Pretty crappy considering the price we paid for the stuff.

Mine too, on the luggage rack support bars coming up from the sides of the rear fender. I ended up covering the bubbling chrome with marine vinyl (matched the seat) and added about 6 studs before gluing over the chrome, looks better than the bubbling chrome.
I think the stress on these parts when you add weight to the luggage rack is causing enough flexing to cause the chrome to bubble.

Peeling on the accessories is common, but I have not heard of Suzuki OEM parts on the actual bike peeling any worse than any other brand.

Dr Bob this is pretty bad pealing these parts were sold on the c50 package in canada ,wind sheild saddle bags and back rest . I put the oem tac on Both my sons have 1100 v stars 3 years older than my suzuki. The same parts on theirs chrome is perfect. I love my ride iam just looking for a way to repair the chrome.

All of those things are accessories, which are prone to being lower quality. Pity- Suzuki did such a nice job on designing and building the bike, but then gets the bolt on accessories from the lowest bidder. Suzuki 'build' parts seem to be the same as other brands, which is shy the engine covers, handlebars, and other preminent parts of the bike do not peel like the accesories do.

There is no way to repair chrome. You can strip it off and have it rechromed, which usually costs more than just buying a new part, or you can rough up the chrome with sandpaper or better yet bead blasting, and paint it silver, flat black, or some other color. You can also strip it and powder coat it, but just like rechroming everything has to be completely disassembled and the original chrome removed, so the cost can add up quickly.

Dr BOB you are right the bike chrome is good, its just the add ons that suck.I dont want to buy them again and have them turn out the same. just looking for a way to paint cover or powder coat. Its that bad. I will have to take them off and experiment lol.

I have learned not to buy Suzuki acessories- I get them from someplace else LOL! Cobra is notorious for the chrome not lasting either. But my MC Enterprises highway pegs and accessories international luggage rack still look brand new after almost 85,000 miles.
