im a new rider ive never rode any sort of bike before i am about to take the msf saftey class which bike should i get after i finish the class im 6'4 220 i live in WV so there are more turns the straight roads here i would ride the bike to school which is only 4 miles each way and maybe ride on weekends sometimes what shouls i get

Both are excellent. Being 6'4" you would eant to sit on both and pick the tallest bike.
I would suggest a duel sprot. I too am 6'4"
Happy Trails.
Remember to picture yourself invisable out there. Them cage drivers are more concerned with texting then avoiding us bikers.

Both will probably be a little small for you. Your a big guy you can handle more bike than that. I would actually recommend a cruiser instead of a sport bike for someone your height plus its a more comfortable ride but if you want a sport bike get at least a 600

They both sound small for you, get one that fits regardless of displacement. Just because it can go 150 doesn't mean it has to, keeping near the speed limit even cruisers ca ride corners.

Most new rider questions here are from <5"8' /140 lbs kids, you're not.

The 250r is lighter and easier to handle, and would be better on very twisty roads. The gs500 is more powerful (but still not a 'hot' bike) and would be more stable and comfortable at speed or on a long ride.

But these are both relatively small bikes. Either should be no problem for you to handle at your size and weight. The 250 might feel a little cramped if you sat on it.

I would say the 500, because the added power will more than make up for the added weight. It wont' make a lot of difference in your commute to school, but if you're like most of us you will find yourself going on long rides on the weekends, enjoying WV's mountain roads and beautiful scenery, and a little extra oomph will help there.

Both are very good bikes, BTW, and would suit your purposes.
