Suzuki Dr-z400 tire sizes?

I'm switching over to a supermoto and am lost when it comes to tires. On on the forums it sounds like tires are very interchangeable. So my question is, are the rims the same throughout the years, as in can i use new sumo tires on the older bike (2000 drz400) or do the rims change to house the bigger tire?
 
supermoto bikes run a smaller diameter, wider tyre than your average dirtbike with bigger disc brakes so your rims are smaller and wider you might have to look at changing the whole front end of ya bike you d be better off talking to a dealer ?
