Up-Date...They are trying to change the rules to be able to race the 2-strokes in Pro-Racing..They said it wouldn't happen this year but could happen in 2010..That will bring them back...If you want the RM 125 for a trail bike you need to put a flywheel weight on and it will make the bike soooooooooooo easy to ride...Its just night and Day the difference it makes..The RM 125s are great bikes..

So I'm older and grew up on 2 stokes and always said when i see RC on a 4 stoke that's when i will change so that time has come and gone and the 4 stroke is the way of the future. So about the rm125 is a fine mx bike and a race bike is the way to go. Anyone will tell you, u can trail ride a race bike but you can't race a trail bike so that is that get a race bike if you wan to ride on a track. Now all 4 brands make fine bikes i have owned them all. There is no reason to be brand loyal . Your size and weight are fine for the bike. The lower bike weight vs the four stroke could be a plus. All that about no to low low rpm power and clutch work and the need to be on the pipe at all times is all true but not necessarily a bad thing. Slipping the clutch and attacking corners high throttle will make you a better rider. You will probably never move up to a 250/450 being a woman and not getting much bigger.
So the biggest down side of the 125 on the trails will be fuel you got maybe 2 hrs a tank. you ride an hour out you better within an hour of you gas can. And hills with deep sand will work your clutch hard.

Now lets talk about buying a used bike....Its a buys game. It should start 1-2 kicks, be scratch free with no where spots on the case or frame. (signs of heavy use) You want a bike that has low use. And no more then 5 years old. Bikes that have been ridden regular need a suspension job bye 7 years in. You don't want any part of that. If it has race numbers you don't want it, even if its only a year old. Best case a dusty stock bike from a college student away at school or the "wife's bike".

so i was thinking about buying a used (craigslist) suzuki RM125
Im a 15 year old girl (but ride rough), 5 foot 7 and about 135 pounds
I ride mostly trails, but want to start riding tracks
Does anyone have any information on the RM125?
can i ride this bike on the trail?
does anyone have this bike? what do you think of it?

THANKS!

The RM125cc is a mx bike and not really anyones first choice for a bike for trails. For riding trails you would be much better off with a 4 stroke. Have a look at the crf250x as while it is not designed for mx it has many of the better features that a mx bike has and if you really needed to do some track riding you could, but basically it is more of a enduro, trails bike with better suspension than many of the basic 4 strokes. If you intend to ride more mx then the crf250r would be a good option. The 2 strokes are slowly disappearing from race grids and are not the bike of choice by any serious mx racer. With most companies not producing them anymore you also need to think of resale value.
The Rm could be ridden on trails but the power is not even on the 2 strokes so it makes it not as suitable for what you are after

Yes I own a 2004 RM125 and I love it. That being said it would be a horrible choice for trails. This bike has zero bottom end. It has less low end than any bike I have ever ridden. It would suck out loud for any type of trail riding. If you do want to make the move to track riding that is a little different story but to get any power out of this bike you have to keep it way up in the RPM's which means you need some mad cornering skills and a gifted clutch hand. You would do much better on a 250F but they are expensive. Obviously the RM is used since they are no longer being made so just get the owner to let you ride it first. If you have the skills to keep it on the pipe it is awesome. Handles like a dream and the suspension is sublime.
