Suzuki Bandit Engine Casing Hot?

I'm new to biking so be gentle. I've got a 2003 600 Bandit and I've noticed that the engine casing (pulse generator) is really really hot. As there is no temp gauge I don't know if this is what it should be doing. I drive around the city mostly so I imagine its gonna get quite hot, but as I'm a novice I'm constantly think the engines gonna seize up on me!..it has oil as well. Should it be too hot to touch? please reassure, thanks
