How to fix a choke on Suzuki Alto? It doesn't seem to work, takes a long time to start get going on cold mornings. Got it fixed once a few years ago, but now have same problems. Any easy fixes/suggestions?

I am not really familiar with the choke of the Alto (is it manual choke or an automatic one?). Nevertheless, I know that it is utilized by the fuel system (especially the carburetor-types). In the morning or when it is cold, the choke is usually activated (sort of closes over the carburetor) to ensure that the car starts. If its not activated (sort of left open), the car will have difficulty in being started. Now, what you should do is check it up yourself and see if it does work (you can see it when you remove the air filter). It might just be the joints or connections (if its a manual choke) or it could be the electrical connection to the automatic choke (or the automatic choke needs to be replaced). The best thing to do is to bring it to either a Susuki shop (they might charge high though) or have a carburetor specialist check it out. If you have any difficulty in doing it yourself I am sure there are a lot of DIY's (do it yourself) online - the other guy was right (you can google or yahoo it!). Best of luck!

First of all make sure you are using proper starting Technic. Before you start cranking push the gas all the way pedal down to the floor, release the gas pedal then turn the key to the crank position. This does two things, Allow the choke to activate and put a squirt of gas in the engine.

You can check the operation of the choke when the engine is cold (not running or cranking) by removing the air cleaner and seeing if the choke valve is open or closed if it's open hit the gas and see if it closes. If not, spray choke cleaner on the linkage and see if that helps it close. The choke uses Bimetallic spring to close it, if the spring is broken, improperly adjusted, or restricted from moving the choke will not close.
