After a bunch of delays, tomorrow at 9am. L4-L5 fusion. Have all my stuff ready. We will see if the Minimally invasive fusion is a little easier with the aspen hardware. Than the conventional type.

The fusion is done, I'm home in my bed hurting but not too bad. My surgical nurse had the roRAB done and he told me I was cheating.

Hi,

I came across your post while seaching for anyone who has had surgury with aspen hardware. I was wondering if you could describe your recovery. I am having surgery at the end of this month and I am also having the aspen harware installed only at S1 L5. I am very worried about the surgury, I think my biggest fear is what I will not be able to do post sugery. I am a 36 year old male and have been dealing with lower back pain for about 4 years......I hope I am making the right choice.

I Hope you are doing well.

Nuraber 1 thing is make sure you have plenty of muscle relaxers. The biggest thing is the muscle spasms. I had to take them every 4 hours for a week. It took about two weeks to feel pretty good. I am a teacher and I went back to work at 2 weeks and by one month I was doing very good. I am at about 3 months now and doing very well. I am still in Physical Therapy and still having some pain but not as bad as the spondy that I had. I have made every day of work and seen all 3 kiRAB games. My fusion is solid and all bone now. 5mg of percs was more than enough for the pain even the next day. My surgical nurse who had the roRAB and screws tells me I am cheating using the Aspen system. Good luck and God bless, anything else you need to know feel free to ask.

Thank you for your response. It seems that you made "Ok". Do you have any regrets with doing the procedure? How much pain were you in prior to the procedure? I am one week away and I am becoming overwhelmed with the "what if's". I think I worry the most of post surgury pain and my limitations post surgury. I have asked my doctor all of these questions but it feels more comforting talking with someone who has lived it. Thanks again for your responses and I hope you are doing well.

No regrets. Would do it again if I had to. I had spondy and the pain was 8-10. Has been a changing point in my struggle with the back. The brace comes off in one week. It is very invasive. Your gonna be great! Good luck and it's normal to be stressing out before.
