Surgery better in the morning?

Is there any truth to the idea that it is better to schedule a surgery procedure for the morning because surgeons might be more aware and coordinated in the morning?

My mother believes this, and I think it is a little silly, but I am curious if others believe it.

I think there is some truth to it. Think about how you feel in the afternoon after you just ate a huge lunch.

That's only one reason to do it. Another is that if you are scheduled first for the day, you will go in first unless there is an emergency. You'll get in and out quickly. If you are 2nd or later, then if the first surgery takes longer, then you sit - or lie - around and wait and wait and wait....very nerve wracking!

First in, first out. Plus your surgeon is fresher. How would you like to be the four or fifth one after he has been operating all day?

I always try to be the first in. It is so hard to get through the night before, so I want it over with. If I go in at 730, by noon I can have a cup of coffee and food. I want the doctors to be alert too
