Hello everybody. I will finally have my fusion surgery July 3. I am looking forward to getting better. I am kinda nervous, but ready to be pain free. I had a dicksectomey in septeraber of 08. so if i can get any kinda advice for this surgerey i would appreciate it. Fusion with hardware july 3 2009. I have been reading everybodys experience with this type of procedure. Please i need feedback. Thanks

Thanks a lot I really dont know what levels are being fused. I guess that might be important. I will find out today. Im sure my doctor told me. It has been much said and so much discussed i just cant remeraber. It has been a real hassle dealing with doctors, wc doctors, attorneys, and the company i work for. I really appreciate the forum. And thanks for replying. And I know I might not be 100% . But I pray I can get close to that. So how are you feeling now

Hi JW, and welcome to the board! You're in the right place. There are a nuraber of us here who have had fusion surgery and can tell you what to expect.

I may repeat some of what Billy said, but that's because it's worth repeating!

First off, I'll just point out that the more you prepare ahead of time, the easier and more comfortable your recovery will be. Be sure to read the thread at the top called

:wave:Hi Junior and sorry about the back surgery but welcome to a great board with some terrific people with great advice. I had fusion surgery January & March of '08 and I am still recovering but don't let that scare you. Everyone heals at a different rate and some of us have complications and others don't but you know how you have felt and how you want to feel again and I am sure you have taken this procedure very serious. All the information that Billy & Emily have given you is very important. I will also say that the "Grabber" was the best tool I could have been given and the Toilet Riser is also a great idea. I didn't have one but if I had to do it over I would get one.:) You will probably be very tired and sleeping a lot at first which is good but when you can, do try and walk as much as possible because it will help in your recovery. Will you have help at home? I was very happy to have the use of my walker at first because it was hard to get up and down until I worked out my own routine. The doctor had Home Health come by my house for 3 weeks to help with some light exercises and walking. My granRABon was with me most of the day (14 years old) so he helped get me some meals and drinks and was a big help in taking our little dog outside because we have a lot of steps. Like Emily said you really sleep a lot and I did. I was glad that I had gotten my laptop before my surgery so I could get on this board and ask any questions that just happen to pop up. Just remeraber to do what the doctor says especially the NO Bending, NO Lifting and NO Twisting because that can really mess things up.

This board was a life saver to me before my surgery and after and STILL. We have all been through the same thing or are going through the same thing so we try and help each other because it is hard for the outside world to understand what we are going through. Make sure you do talk to your doctor about the pain management part of your recovery because if your medicine isn't doing it's job it will effect your recovery for sure.

Take care and keep us informed.
