Ok, i guess this is less a question and more of a discussion.
I've been looking around about the possibility of a video game based on the CW's show Supernatural, staring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.
Looks like it's not going to happen. However, SHOULD it happen, this is what i think the game should be like.
The game should be a hybrid of genres. It should have the atmosphere and attention to graphical detail of survival horror games and the action, when there is action, of a shooter/action-adventure. Something along the lines of Dead Space. However, it should also have elements similar to puzzle/adventure games. Meaning, investigation. One of the best parts of Supernatural episodes is trying to figure out what the heck is going on. What type of monster they are dealing with and what to do to stop it. I think the elements of; finding clues, researching the history, making connections, questioning people, and posing as an FBI/Federal Marshall/Cop/Etc. should be included.
I.E. The body of a 35 year old ex marine is found decapitated behind a dumpster. You find out the man's name and address by posing as a federal agent at the police station. You find out he was arrested before on counts of domestic violence. Who should you talk to next? Will his wife be to tell you the truth? Would it be someone that served with him? Is it better to pose as a friend of the family or a federal agent?
Then each choice leads to different information.
As for the action parts, they obviously shouldn't be run and gun ala Among Tieves or GTA. Something closer to Splinter cell.
The occult stuff should be handled in a first person type of situation. Meaning, when you want to draw a devils trap, you have to reference some learning material first, then you are presented with a screen showing the surface you want to draw it on. Next you are given a spray can/chaulk/whatever and must draw the circle and approximate symbols of the devil's trap. As for speaking different incantations, there should be a book available to read out of and use a USB headphone to read into in the beginning. However, when things heat up later, you'll have to recite the exorcism from memory or if you mess up, you are presented with a couple of words to choose from. Like trying to remember.
And now the big one. I don't think you should play as Dean or Sam. I know, i know- it's heresy. But think about it, would you really want to screw up your perception of the two stars? or would you rather play as some unknown hunter (or perhaps several different hunters-perhaps even Jo or Rufus) and then have Sam and Dean show up to help you.
I think it would be fun to call Sam and Dean and ask for help/guidance/assistance and have them show up to seal the deal on something.
