Superman on ITV1

LOL - too true. Looks terrible quality.

Didn't they do a similar thing with Ocean's 11 a while back - where they had a 4:3 version and it took them years to buy the 16:9 version?

Surely converting it to 16:9 would cut some of the picture off ? Or have they been shooting films in 16:9 for decades ? Actually, they might have been, seeing as though the pictures have been displaying in this format for as long I can remember going to them.

This isn't a genuine post is it? Movies have been shot in various flavours of widescreen for eons. It's 4x3 TVs that have cut bits of the picture off.

I can't believe I've responded to this. It must have been a joke post.

Just because you might definitely know the answer to something, this doesn't mean to say others will as well. I'd actually rather someone who wasn't being 'funny' had responded to it. When I said "Actually, they might have been, seeing as though the pictures have been displaying in this format for as long I can remember going to them.", I meant that they must have been shooting films in widescreen for decades in the pictures.

I know ITV are having to make savings and cut the costs of its programmes, but they have really opted to show some poor quality versions of some movies in the past.

Movies 4 Men have shown better quality films.

ITV have got into the habit of either showing bad quality versions or cut the hell out of them, not for censorship purposes but to fit into the time slot which I think is just idiotic and the programme controller of ITV really should be shot for thinking that's a great idea.
Or the other thing that's starting to get on my moobs are adverts every ten minutes. WTF?? They used to show them every thirty on most films.

However, I didn't get chance to see it tonight but which version of Superman was shown? I've got the directors cut which in my opinion is better than the original release and I've yet to see it on TV.

Happy New Year everyone :D

Not surprised to see a thread about this. Just caught a couple of minutes of it on ITV with the missus yesterday (I have the big tin thing), and was amazed at the shocking quality of the picture. If you bought the original VHS release it didn't look as bad as what ITV showed yesterday.

How on earth does that happen? You'd have thought they'd have access to better quality stock than this. Still the best superhero flick by a country mile though.

I don't have the Tin Set, but I do have the 8-disc set I think with all 4 movies.

Anyways, was planning on watching this, but with you lot here. The Picture was crap. They didn't even bother to show it HD either.

The new one is on tonight on BBC, Superman Returns, but this isn't on HD either.
