A few weeks ago "Alias" Creator J.J. Abrams handed Warner Bros a 200 page superman 5 screenplay.

It has apparently knocked the socks off warner bros execs and everyone there that they want it made for a 2004 release.

The screenplay is so good that it's the reason Batman Vs Superman is on hold.

warner are now looking for a Director and have 4 four potential candidates in mind.

1: Director of Panic Room, Fight Club and Seven: David Fincher.

2: Director of The Insider, Manhunter and Ali: Michael Mann.

3: Director of The X-Files: Fight the Future and this summer's Reign of Fire: Rob Bowman.

4: Director of Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Ocean's 11 and this winter's Solaris: Steven Soderbergh.


Rumors hit the net today saying the New sup movie will be titled
"Superman: Man Of Steel." and that Warners are also speaking to Richard Donner [Superman The Movie director] about coming aboard the project as executive producer."
 
David Fincher for quality direction or Rob Bowman for can't go wrong cheap (comparitively) filming... but not Soderbergh cause he'll just cast George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

Michael Mann isn't suited to that type of film.....

Charlie's Angels Director Mc G was ment to be doing the next superman movie. But because of Charlie's Angels 2 he was rumored to be off the project, This is the reason warners was looking for a new Director.

But,....Cinescape talked with Director McG and he's not off the project as recent rumours have suggested -

"Superman is looking good. I have seen a draft of the script, which I could not possibly be more enthusiastic about. That is ideally the next picture - right after Charlie's Angels 2 to go right into Superman". said Mc G.

Whereas details of the story within J.J. Abrams acclaimed draft have remained top secret, McG finally revealed one hint -

Yesterday Sky movies broke the news that "Red Dragon" Director Brett Ratner is attached to Direct the next superman movie with Anthony Hopkins as Supes' dad...


Today "Latino Review" are in New York covering the "Red Dragon" junket. They specifically asked director Brett Ratner what his next project was and guess what, he CONFIRMED that he's doing Superman! Ratner said that J.J. Abrams delivered a "F**cking Amazing" script...

Since Anthony Hopkins starred in "Red Dragon," he was also in attendance and they got a chance to ask him about yesterday's rumor that he was attached to play Superman's father Jor-El. Ratner said he definitely wants Hopkins to play the role, and Hopkins even did an impersonation of Marlon Brando!

They also overhead another conversation with Brett Ratner in which he debunked the rumor that Keanu Reeves was playing the Man of Steel. So, it looks like the Sky Movies report was right on - look for Brett Ratner directing, Anthony Hopkins starring as the dad, and possibly an unknown in the lead role.
