I'm a 1st and 2nd grade teacher. (I've also taught 4th and 5th grade). I live in a very small town, but was looking for a way to keep busy this summer and maybe make a little money on the side.
I was going to work at our local library, but they don't need anyone else right now.
The idea hit me to become a reading tutor for K-3rd Grade.
I would tutor a child in my home for a session probably 45-60 min. My husband and I have a very clean home, we don't smoke or drink, and we don't have kids running around in the background, so it's very quiet. (Perfect learning environment). I've worked with ALL sorts of learning abilities, and ALL sorts of behaviors, so there's NOT much I haven't seen.
I wanted to ask parents out there, or other teachers that have done this... what would families be willing to pay for such a service. Consider it being a small town, middle class. I would teach letter formation, phonics, phonemic awareness, and decoding. I could work on handwriting skills for cursive and print. I would help the older readers with fluency and comprehension.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking around $20/Hr. Is that too much/too little? Thanks for the help!
