KABUL, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- In the militancy-plagued Afghanistan, a suicide bomber blew himself up in the fortified capital city Kabul on Saturday, leaving six people, all civilians dead, Kabul police confirmed in a statement released here.
The attack took place near the headquarters of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and the victims, according to the statement are mostly children.
This time, the anti-government militants, according to the statement had exploited a teenager to carry out the deadly suicide bombing.
"A 14 years old boy strapped explosive device in his body and blew himself up killing six innocent civilians and injuring four others," Kabul police said in the statement.
The bomber was also killed in his blast happened at 11:30 a.m. local time.
Saturday's deadly suicide bombing took place in a diplomatic area which is close to the ISAF headquarters, Afghan film building, national radio and television compound and the U.S. embassy.
Majority of the victims, according to police and eye witnesses are children who worked as street vendor in the locality to support their families.
Meantime, Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit, in talks with media via telephone from unknown location claimed of responsibility, saying five Americans were killed and two others sustained injuries.
He also said that a Taliban suicide bomber named Mohammad Abas carried out the bombing.
The NATO-led ISAF troops in a statement condemned the deadly bombing.
"The International Security Assistance Force condemns today's suicide attack in Kabul, which killed several innocent Afghan civilians. According to reports from Afghan security officials, who immediately arrived on the scene to secure the area, the suicide attacker today was a teenaged youth," the statement stated.
"If these reports are true, by taking advantage of an impressionable child to carry out this attack, the insurgents display cowardice. Forcing underage youth to do their dirty work again proves the insurgency's despicable tactics," the statement added.
There were no casualties on ISAF forces, according to the statement.
Today's attack in Kabul occurred out while Afghan government and people of Afghanistan were observing the 11th Martyrdom anniversary of late resistance commander and national hero Ahmad Shah Masoud, amid tight security.
In a related development, Afghan security forces gunned down a would-be suicide bomber in Qalai Now the capital of Badghis province 555 km northwest of Kabul; while two roadside bombings in Taliban hotbed, the southern Helmand and Uruzgan provinces left six people including five police dead and injured five others including two police on Saturday.
