Me and my friend are making a video using my Final Cut Express and his Sony Handycam. When I imported his video to my computer, though, the files were " .mpeg " format, rather than mp4, which I use. Should I convert the files with an application (I'm a little strapped for cash, so I can't exactly buy it) or is there a way to import the files that would set them as .mp4 format? If you need additional details or for me to re-explain, I'd be glad to.
Also, since I'm not acquainted with the Sony Handycam, I think I should point out that my friend uses Windows, and I use a Mac for Final Cut. Could there be some formatting issues resulting in this? (Again, I don't know about the Handycam's features) If his camera is formatted for Windows, could that be interfering with the files' transferral to Mac? Other detail: if this helps, the footage is held on his whopping 60GB hard drive. I appreciate any help
