I had another question up a day or two ago, and the responses were very helpful, so thank you to any repeat visitors!
I plan on taking a cross country road trip in the later summer of '08 or spring '09. I plan on taking my sweet time, and staying off freeways as much as I can. Back highways and county roads is my route. Staying with friends here and there, camping most of the time. I'm looking for a good dual purpose bike. I've narrowed it down (due to price, BMW is out of the question) to a V-Strom 650, or KLR-650. At least, that's what I'm thinking now. Other sub-$7000 suggestions are welcome.
I'll be mostly on roads, but a little bit of roughing it from time to time when the urge arises to see what's over that hill through that field.
So, sound off on these two bikes. I appreciate the feedback.
I'm about 6'3", 195 lbs. if that makes a difference. Comfort, gas mileage, fuel capacity, reliability, ease of repair... all of these are things I'm considering.
I used to have a little Honda 250. Nice bike, but I don't think a 250 is gonna get the job done, so I'm looking for something bigger.
