I'm 19 years old, male and I have some acne scars on my cheeks that I want to get rid of, or improve the appearance of them. I don't believe they are to bad, or rather as bad as I know acne scars can be. I have maybe 5-7 scars in all, 2 of them being, i believe, deep as well as long. I've used a cream purchased over the counter to try and help fade the scars but with little success and it usually makes my skin redish and irritated to I don't like to use it regularly.
One of the bad ones located on my left cheek is the most annoying of them, it is the biggest one and I can actually feel it on my cheek, it almost feels like its making my skin sag in that one spot.
i'm curious as to what treatment opportunities are available for this type of scaring. The biggest thing I've heard is laser treatment which removes the top layers of the skin. The two problems I have with this treatment is that healing time can but up to 3 months and I'm concerned about it's affect it might have on a skin disease I have called vitiligo. vitiligo is a disease that runs in my family that causes skin to loose it pigment somewhat randomly and it's actually cause is somewhat unknown (from what i've read). It is suggested that it forms around damaged skin, such as a cut which I have witnessed on my own body (a cut on my stomach when I was 5 formed the first vitiligo, which over the years has spread down my left leg). While I have not had any vitiligo form around my acne scars I'm afraid a laser treatment might spark a new point for it.
Any ideas or suggestions?
