I'm looking for YA books along the lines of 'Twilight' by Stephenie Meyer, just without the characters. The reason why I ask this is because almost many YA panormal, supernatural or fantasy books I have read published after this popular book all have characters along these lines. The guy is domineering, brooding, dark, handsome-looking, (usually immortal) - and protective (sometimes far to much) of the girl. Although not always fitting along this mold, the heroine's character and personality usually goes along these lines - a loner (not always), complains about how unfair the world is and pines after the guy for half a book.
Okay, so what I'm asking for are characters that preferably don't fall to much into this mold. I love romance, but reading about cookie cutter characters again and again gets rather tiresome after a while. The only YA book I have read so far that dosen't fall to much into these would be Holly Blacks novel 'Tithe' and 'Ironside'. Any paranormal or fantasy book that falls out of the usual character conventions for YA novel's would be very much appreciated.
