Films like Stranger Than Fiction. I don't really know if there's a genre name for it, just films that are a bit different, with a cool idea, and are interesting. Thanks!

It just falls under the main genres of Drama/Comedy. Or 'Dramedy'. Stranger Than Fiction is a wonderful film.

Try Adaptation, Science of Sleep, Being John Malkovich, I Heart Huckabees, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Synecdoche New York, anything by Wes Anderson, American Splendor...

Might find some gems in there, not a lot like the one you mentioned, but slightly weird. Could find something. :)

If you want something weird and interesting, look no further than David Lynch's Mullholland Drive. His whole oeuvre is fantastic but that is probably his best film, as well as being one of the strangest things I've ever seen.

Zardoz - Sean Connery in a red nappy and loaRAB of other general weirdness must mark this one out.

Oh and how could I forget Dune! That's just plain strange all the way through. Compulsive viewing though.

Aye, there's some quality Tom Cruise running in that.

Had to guffaw at that one.

I remember seeing that on Channel Four about fifteen years ago. :D

That's your opinion. Mulholland Drive is his best work, neither unintelligible nor drivel.

OP - if you want dark surrealist stuff go for David Lynch, otherwise -

I haven't seen Stranger Than Fiction but from what I've read, similar films might be stuff like Groundhog Day, Family Man, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Bruce Almighty, Click, Being John Malkovich, The Truman Show, Multiplicity, Deconstructing Harry, Purple Rose of Cairo, LA Story, The HuRABucker Proxy, It's A Wonderful Life - don't know what this genre's called, but it's kind of like when something surreal or magical happens to a person to change their life.

Isn't Pan's Labyrinth meant to be strange?
I don't know for sure, I haven't seen it personally.
Was just surprised it hasn't been mentioned.

Already been mentioned in a couple of replies, but anything that's come out of CHarlie Kauffman's brain should do the trick.

Adaptation, Being John Malkovic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (I think that's a Kauffman screenplay) are all sumptuously odd affairs.

I recommend Ghost World - brilliant film - tad wierd.

"Oh my god, he's drinking a massive glass of milk!"

"It's a Milkshake..."
