Suffering in Pain and No one Can Help Me

Here's vote #3 for a chiropractor. You won't get much from a medical doctor except pain meds, which could addict you and won't fix the root of the problem. A chiro can fix it relatively fast and cheaply.

Hi Jenny,

Wow, your post is extremely helpful. I feel a lot better about waiting until January. I've read countless websites on pinched nerves, and none of them were as informative as your post.

I have to approach this problem with a positive and rational attitude. I'll have excellent government insurance in Jan. I don't believe it has a pre-existing condition clause. I am also encouraged by the fact that the numbness is gone from my fingers. Maybe the nerve is healing. I did read that a pinched nerve can take a long time to heal. But then I read that you need to consider surgery if no improvement after 12 weeks. Such conflicting information out there. I haven't noticed any muscle weakness either. My hand functions normal. Is muscle weakness a sign of severe nerve compression?

Thanks again for help!

The nerve won't "heal" unless the pinching is relieved. The misaligned vertabrae are what are pinching it. A chiro can align the vertabrae and stop the pinching with 1-3 adjustments. Then the nerve will "heal".

I can't imagine anyone resorting to surgical intervention with all of its accompanying risks - including risk of failure at best and death at worst - without at least trying chiropractic adjustment first.

Well I don't fully trust chiros and I don't fully trust doctors either! There are so many varying opinions about the two camps. I did actually see a chiro when I first got this problem ,and had a neck adjustment. He said I had joints out of alignment. The doctor looked at my X-ray, and said the chiro had lied to me, the joints looked fine. Then I read the horror stories online about people who were injured or given a stroke from chiro neck adjustments. It's a risk either way. If it is a herniated disc causing the pinched, I don't see how a chiro would fix that.

If the pain gets really bad, I may go back to him. It is 40 bucks a visit, but he wanted me to come 3 times a week which I can't afford! I just need to find out exactly what I'm dealing with first.
