Hello!
A while ago I posted a question about my dog having sudden whining for no reason and a sudden change in behaivior. Everyone said it was seperation anxiety. After some tests recently, it was determined that she did not get fixed properly and she was having a false pregnancy.

I just wanted to post this for people that searched for this subject because I had a very hard time finding anything else besides seperation anxiety. It can happen in spayed dogs that are not fixed properly (although RARE) or in dogs that are not fixed at all.
I agree regarding taking your pet to the vet if you have a concern, but sometimes people come here for suggestions and like to do their own research online before spending money on a trip to the vet that might be unnecessary.

Her false pregnancy symptoms were not very strong. Her nipples developed and she lost energy. The sudden change in behaivior started when it was about the time that she would have had her pups, which lasted about a week. She would put a toy in her mouth, walk around and whine with it in her mouth, and then take them to one area, she wanted to cuddle with us much more, got VERY upset when we left, did not eat or drink much, slept a lot, she just seemed very sad. When I took her to the vet he squeezed one of her nipples and milk actually came out! Its crazy that they actually have mental and physical symptoms. Now she is totally fine but they will need to do surgery on her again to fix her properly. :(

What else is your dog doing besides whining?
