First off I'd like to say hello. I'm a 23 year old student who has been suffering from GERD for 4-5 years. It has been awful for me because it has destroyed my voice, made it hard to breathe on some occasions, and has plainly been a thorn in my side.
I have been to the doctor, had a endoscopy done. They didn't find anything (of course) and told me to try taking Protonix 40mg instead of Prilosec. I have used Prilosec, Protonix, Prevacid, Zantac, and none of these have worked.
My voice is still pretty bad but I have found some relief using alternative medicine. I use Organic Apple Cider vinegar, mixed with a bit of honey. After taking this mixture, I drink Seltzer Water.
Another thing to try is to put your arms above your head and try to force up a burp or the material in your throat with pressure from your abdominal area. It's a bit disgusting, but it does help to cough up some of the food stuck in the throat. It makes it easier to breathe and gets some of the acid out of the throat.
My voice is still cruddy, but I am able to breathe much easier. I have also tried to avoid breaRAB and bread-like fooRAB, which has also helped. I still get lumpy feelings in my throat, but it is somewhat better.
I just wanted to suggest this for people who wanted a little improvement, but hopefully something better comes along which can completely alleviate the problem. I'd like to have my voice back again so I can sing.
Let me know if you guys have some other methoRAB which help, I'd love to hear em.
