subwoofer flexing to far out, how to fix this?

so i recently bought a 15" L7 kicker solobaric and i've noticed my subwoofer will flex to far out on deep notes. it's in a 3 cubic ft. ported box on 1000 watts rms. after receiving the sub i see it only says to push 750 on a ported box and 1000 on sealed, may this be my problem? my amplifier gain is set to the rca outputs on the deck which is 2.2v bass boost and subsonic are all the way down, and my LPF is around 60-80hrz. Would putting it into a sealed box help out a lot?

Alright i turned the subsonic up to roughly 30-35 hrz, and it doesn't seem to over flex anymore. But it does seem to get distorted around 3/4's the volume level, and starts to smell a bit. What would be causing this now?
 
My guess is that you need to use the subsonic filter.
The reason is likely due to the tuning point of the enclosure NOT being as low as the signals you are sending to it. When this happens, the excursion of the woofer is uncontrolled and damage will occur.
Of course in a properly tuned sealed box this is not an issue. So one of those could help a LOT if you cannot set the subsonic filter where it needs to be set.

Putting it in a sealed box would help great. It seals off the pressure pushing back against the sub. A ported box let's the pressure leave giving the sub less bounce. But ported box produces that lower loud bass.
