Subway Sandwich = congestion...... anyone?

Whenever i eat at Subway and order their bread it makes my chest EXTREMELY congested (phlegm filled coughing for like an hour after). I know it is their bread because if i get a wrap (which i basically only do now) it wont happen.

Now i know its only subway since i will eat Quiznos a lot as well but I am fine after, or if i make a sandwich at home i am okay. Also its any and every subway not just one (so cleanliness can not be the issue).

I am thinking it is some allergic reaction i have to their bread ingredients but does anyone else experience this as well? or does anyone have an explanation as to why this happens with their bread in specific?

thanks, hope i am not alone here.

Hi, Tevil . . . allergies to certain fast foods are quite common. I cannot eat anything McDonald, Burger King, Sonic, etc., because of the oils they cook them in. I have IBS and it gets that going for me.

I do not know what ingredients might be unique to Subway bread or that it might be something they spread on the bread.

Since you are getting phlegm (possibly either originating in the bronchial tubes or from allergic sinus drainage) and if you really do not want to stop eating Subway bread, you might try taking an over the counter antihistamine before consuming the sandwich and see if that helps.

If it does, it is likely there is something in the bread you are allergic to.

Let us know how it goes!

Subway bread also contains soybean oil, another possible allergen.

Both their bread and wraps have autolyzed yeast and/or hydrolyzed protein they can cause a sensitivity similar to that of MSG.

The honey oat, wheat and wraps contain sulfites.

well if i eat a wrap i am okay but any of the breads will make me congested. i dont mind not eating the bread; this was more a curiosity thing more than anything else. i dont think the soybean oil would be the culprit becuase i used to LOVE Olestra chips..... yes i am the one person who liked them.

thanks
