I do agree with you that they are "rarely" a problem although I can quote several examples where they ARE a problem, take for example an apartment building that was "Bulk". Meaning that every suite had Bell ExpressVu installed as part of the Lease they signed when renting.
This building had enjoyed service with Bell for a few years and then one day they lost signal. the Tech went to the equipment inside the building and found no incomming signals. He proceeded to the roof where he found that directly in th eline of sight a new floor was being added to an adjacent apartment building.....Yes it is an extreme case but it does happen.
I have seen self installs, at ground level, then the Customer is furious when a new house is built nextdoor and they loose signal, demanding that Bell relocate his dish for free....
As for Tree's, well they do tend to get higher every year around where I live, so it might not be a problem during installation, but several years later it most certainly can be a major problem.
I will be removing 3 very large Poplars soon, as they are getting close to obstructing my signals. If I look South all around to the West I have nothing but Trees, so for me it means being prepared to deal with the situation, when it becomes a problem, which is getting close..
I have examples where a "Move" customer has offered to 'pay' the Technician to say there is "No Line Of Sight" just so he can get out of a contract, should he do that. Remember if the Tech comes to your house and does no work he gets $0.
Even when you die, closing that account is not as simple as you think, just as Ex Agent, she has dealt with that problem I am sure.
There are many way to get out of the contract but the best way if you are that concerned is to use a provider who requires NO contract in the first place.
