Subs or Dubs?!?

The thing good about dubs is that you can't read it. You hear it. In subs, theres subtitles. Japanese characters talk very fast, its so hard to keep up with if you're a good reader. However, for some, its very difficult. Thats why many prefer the english dubbed because of it. SOME actually have very good character voices. Some don't, some do but its very rare. Others don't really care at all for good or bad voices, as long as they don't have a hard time reading, its all good. You can actually be amazed at how japanese can be translated into english. If you get my drift.
 
I have only found about 5 animes where I thought the Eng dub was pretty good, but I usually prefer animes with a European theme be in English cause it sounds kinda weird having King Aurthur speaking Japanese. Oh yeah, and out of those five I liked in English I would like to mention that one of them, Tekkaman Blade 2, actually had better dialog and voice actors in the Eng dub than the Japaneese version, this time the Japaneese made the same mistake that most of the Eng dub voice actors make. It was like they just didn't care, so obviously both sides have that problem it just isn't as common for the Japaneese because it's already so embeded in their culture. Kind of like how martial arts isn't as openly moched and critisized in China as much as it is here. For a land diversity America sure isn't very open minded.
 
Definitely subs.
All, well nearly all english dubs annoy the crap out of me.
Especially, especially Naruto.

That put me off dubs so much I only watch anime with subtitles, and I don't even understand Japanese but I think it sounds better than the bad actors they dub it over with.
 
Depends. I prefer subs a lot of the time, but only because most dub jobs are pretty terrible. If the dubbing is done right I don't mind watching that way, but that seems rather rare. I've only watched a handful of dubs where I've been consistently pleased with the voice actors; Cowboy Bebop is the only example coming to mind right now.
 
Subs. Dubs tend to ruin the Anime because a lot of the dubbing companies want to make it more kid friendly. Look at Naruto/One Piece

Both had terrible dubs.
 
Dubs, withought a doubt. Especially when the characters arn't even Japanese, like in Black Lagoon. Through most of the show Rock is the only Japanese speaker. The other three are American.

But sometimes I do watch a show in subs

Excessumnota: Not always the case. Just watch any Manga Ent. Dub EVER. Espcially late 80's early 90's. As well as Black Lagoon and Hellsing. Defenentally not kid friendly.
 
Yes, but that is an exception. 'Westernized' anime is nearly rewritten in some cases to suit the censors and parents. Shows that you will never see in the 9am Saturday morning line-up tend to be more well done. Ghost in the Shell, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Evangelion, etc... not dubbed for Saturday morning, thus gets done better.

Also... if you want a anime that hasn't been officially subbed, you get fan subs, and the translations can be quite atrocious sometimes.

btw I prefer dubs. I dont watch Japanese cartoon like pokemon or dragonball Z... I watch anime. Anime is often very complicated in storyline, and you need to watch what is going on, not just read the bottom. If I want to read, I will get the manga.
 
Subs preferred.
Some anime sounds pretty good dubbed... Bebop has a great English cast.

But I will watch the Japanese cast before I even think of English. >.>
 
Subs definately, with a few exceptions such as Bebop, Black Lagoon, and GITS. I find dubs to be too weird with awkward pauses and it sounds odd for english speakers to yell like the Japanese.
 
I much prefer subs. I mean yea there are some decently dubbed anime; But for the most part, english voice actors tend to ruin the beauty of the show. I know this isn't an anime, but for an example, Crisis Core. Anyone who has played the game will know the part I am speaking of.

There is a part where Cloud just lets out a scream that has either brought, or nearly brought most everyone I know who has played it to tears. But only the japanese version, the english dubbed version evokes no emotion what so ever.

Really? I think you give anime too much credit. Very few select anime actually have anything near a complex story. And yes, I do watch plenty non-shonen anime.

As for reading; A lot of sub watchers I've talked to, myself included don't even register the fact they are reading. I watch a lot in sub regardless of which country it's from. I've seen films in Chinese, Russian, Spanish and Japanese, all with subs, and the only one of those I can understand partially is Japanese, and not enough to watch raw.

I guess it comes down to whether you can get to the point when you can ignore the subtitles and yet read them at the same time.
 
It really depends on the voice actors. take Elfen Lied for instance, the english dub is crap. the english voice actors are genric sounding, the production quality is marginal at best... then theres Haruhi Suzumiya which has one of the best dubs ive ever heard. the dubs capture the emotion of the orgional Japanese recordings without making the anime seem like ****. well thats my rant... lol
