Subs or Dubs?!?

Although I prefer subs, I don't think dubs are horrible to listen to. Sometimes I feel that there is less emotion in dubs, but otherwise it's fine. Also, about reading the subtitles being a hassle, it's true. The question is - is the original japanese voice acting good enough for that extra work? (assuming that the subtitles are well-done)

Honestly, I prefer Subs over Dubs. Sometimes I watch Dubs because they seem to be all right but when I watch the Subbed version, some setences do not fit each other. I also learn more if I watch Subs ^^

i usaully go with subs cause alot of dubs just sound stupid!!!!!
like for example Ikkitousen it wanted to make me cry so ya it depends ill watch some dubs like bleach
 
98,5% for subs... I watched Beck with dubs and then with subs. Tha one with subs was better. So far i watched few anime series dubbed and then subbed and all of them were better with subs...
 
subs...dubs seem to have less emotion or seriousness to me. some dubs also just dont fit the character.....like the dub version of naruto compared to the sub version....i DO like some dub though but thats only cuz i see the voices fit with the anime characters.
 
I'm definably a subbed anime person. Not only does it sound better, it also helps me learn Japanese without even knowing it. It's kinda scare. I listen to episodes after I've watched them every once in a while to see how much I can translate. I'm hoping I'll eventually learn it fluently from anime, I'll be my forth language.
 
The best way to learn Japanese is to actaully take a class. Learning it from anime doesn't always work so well, especially if the fansubbing group takes a lot of liberties and don't produce a literal translation.
 
Yea, but if you arent fluent in the language then you wont get them anyway.

I take the better of the two. If a series has both, I watch the first episode twice. First with subs, then the dub. If the dub doesnt murder the conversations and the voices fit the characters (In my opinion) then ill take my native language any day.

Ive noticed alot of people arguing the subs using 'originality' as one of their reasons. For the majority of anime where the series is based off the manga, this reason is total bull-****. The manga is f-ing silent, how can you say the japanese voice is more original than the english? The voices were chosen to match a black and white sketch drawn by the creator. Not the other way around. Unless the author of the manga personally picked the voice-actors(which does happen sometimes), an english take on teh voices of a manga are just as 'original' as the japanese ones.
 
I couldn't choose. I tried to decide by watching Furi Kuri in English, then Japanese. The voices in English were quite annoying, but the jokes didn't come off as well in the Japanese (including Naota and Haruko's priceless "I'm just a wandering housekeeper" dialogue xD). So it really depends what anime you're watching, and whats more important to you - good jokes or kawaii voices.
 
When I speak of origionality I'm not talking about it being closest to the origional source of content, I'm talking about the origional language. And unless I'm wrong, most manga dialogue isn't changed that drastically from manga => anime transitions.
It's the language translation where meaning is lost, the translation of manga => anime often enough isn't that much of a loss. And even if you did make the English Dub directly from the manga, you'd still have that language barrier. And Japanese isn't a language that is congruent with English, there are a lot of incompatible words and phrases between Japanese and English that convey different meanings.

Though in the end that's not the best reason to avoid dubs, but it is one of them (Then again, subs will have the exact same problem if you think about it. It depends on the quality of the subbing and dubbing group. From what I've heard the dubbing groups try to Americanise the wording of the anime while I know personally sub groups don't tend to do that.)
I'm on my way to watching raw anyway, so this problem won't affect me anywhere near as much in future.
