Subaru loyale versus Toyota tercel 4wd?

Ok my question is which is the better vehicle? i live in the mountains of utah where its not uncommon to get a foot or two of snow a night in the winter months, and i cant afford the gas of an suv or small truck and really like the idea of a 2 wheel car that can be put into four wheel if i need it. my concerns are parts prices and fuel mileage and those kinds of things. i would really appreciate the help
 
These are both really old models.

Tercel 4wd is useless in snow. It doesn't have traction control or differential lock. It was made for better handling on dry pavement.

The old Loyale model also lacks traction control.

I recommend either getting a Subaru and adding a after market differential lock or getting something a little newer.

Without differential lock or traction control, AWD is useless in snow.
Some companies make absolutely useless traction control, if it can even be called that, example, Chevy, Dodge, and Ford.

Toyota makes good traction control, especially in their upper models.
Some Toyota models even come with AWD traction control as well as differential lock, but these are SUVs.
