Stupid dealer/salesman tricks....

We've had several threads about buying and how to do it - lets hear some of the stupid stuff dealers/salepeople have tried to pull on you! I'll start!

I was shopping for a 2011 RGU at a nearby dealer. I knew the GM there, so I thought he would be competitive. He tells me they are always looking for trades - they sell more used then new. He was glad to see me, but he turned me over to his Sales Manager to make a deal. (1st mistake - I knew him, not her)

She comes out to look over my 2007 FLTR. 33.5K miles, IDS, King Tourpack on detachable mount, luggage rach w/pass backrest, Corbin dual tour seat, Bagger Brace, Reinhart TDs, SE headlight trim, never down, all the original parts included with it. E3 on the back has 4400 miles on it, front is starting to cup. Faithfully maintained, 4400 since serviced (just finishing 3-week road trip). She starts at low book, ZERO for the extras, and then wants to deduct $300 for the tire and CHARGE ME FOR THE NEXT SERVICE!!!! They also wanted me to spend the night so their service department could check my trade out (to see if they could deduct for anything else!)

I passed on that deal, and went to my local dealer the next day. Got a great deal, and rode the new one home. Went into the nearby dealer ten days later, and the SM says that my new bike is ready (what a moronic line) and I pointed outside to the RGU and replied "It's not just ready, it's already had it's 1000-mile service - and it was about a $3K better deal!" She was dumbfounded....

That's the way most of those f#$*#$s are. Your bike is a pile of sh!t and theirs is solid gold.

I am soooo ready for a 2011, just not ready for the insults.

When I bought my bike they asked if I wanted the extended warranty and wheel/tire protection and I said no. I went to pay for the bike and both these were still on the price. The sales manager pretends he didn't know I didn't want it(he knew..) and leaves and comes back with the new bill. He took off the extended warranty but not the wheel/tire protection. I was starting to get pissed and he leaves and finally comes back with the bill with neither on it. What balls!

And to top it all off, these moronic idiots go around confused why they have no business. The dealers need to stop dumping out the cereal boxes looking for their managers and sales force. Seems like most of them just came out of a cracker jacks box.

Thank goodness my local dealer has some sense about the way they run the sales dept and service dept.

I solved the dealer issue by buying online at a great price Had to spend my whole summer over here in the sand to accomplish it though lol

You didn't bite at their lowball....doesn't mean it won't work on the next prospective buyer...they are in the profit business...it is our job to allow a profit (so they can stay in business) but not getting reamed either

There is a new manager at one of the local stores. Old manager now owns another store out of the area. Bike Sales staff is the same but parts manager, motorclothes manger, and sales associates have turned over quite a bit. We will see if change is good but now I know only one persons name and he is in sales.

I understand there is a Greeting Salesman trick that is used also.

The trick is the Greeter is to meet you and make suggestions that your trade in is worth a fair coin...the paperwork gets underway long enough for you to want the new car/truck/bike so much that you can taste it...then for some reason the Greeter must disappear (mine once had to go skiing suddenly). The new salesperson (often with the Service Manager) now says they need to do this and that to fix your trade in...result you end up paying more....pretty common trick....

One thing I noticed is when I tell the US dealers that I am a Canuck looking for a bike for me and maybe my wife, they get less than enthusiastic...probably because they can't sell me a new one with any add ons....

Heard from one salesman that it is against the law to sell me any bike less than 7500 miles on it due to Canadian Environmental reasons and due to speedometer differences. NOT...geesh....you would think for a chance at my 10-20000 US dollars for a good used they might do their homework....
