DEVELOPING: Two women were injured in a shooting at a community college section of a Virginia mall Friday.
Police say the two victims were taken to a hospital and the suspected gunman is in custody.
The shooting occurred at a satellite campus of the New River Community College in the New River Valley Mall.
Christiansburg city spokeswoman Becky Wilburn says emergency officials received a 911 call around 2 p.m. Friday about someone with a gun at the location outside of Blacksburg. The caller reported hearing shots fired.
Wilburn said the two adult women had gunshot wounds. One was airlifted to the hospital, and the other was taken by ambulance.
The gunman reportedly opened fire near the entrance of the school. Police have not released the condition or identities of the victims or suspect.
Authorities do not believe there's any continuing threat to the community.
Schools in the area were briefly locked down as a precaution.
