I know when most people can't decide a major they usually can't decide within a specific field. For example, most people can't decide between sociology or philosophy because they are similar, history or political science, or even chemestry or biology. My point is the two majors I'm stuck between are at COMPLETELY different specturms and here are my problems I don't know what to do.
1. Since both are so radically different from each other I can't take a "middle" elective where I can still gain academic credit towards both and decide which field I like. If I take a few physics class and deside history, I waste about 1-2 semesters in college. Vice versa with history classes
2. I have looked extensivly in career opertunities for both fields. I still cannot decide between. I have spoken to physics professors, math advisors, and an astronomer. For history, I spoke with several history professors, an advisor, and even a professional historian. They all gave me great advice which still got me stuck in the middle
3. I posses the critical skills for both fields. For example, I've taken a Calculus I class and found the material understandable and nothing too rigorous. I also read very well, so if I study history I'll be able to comprehend and write as much as needed. Basically, I don't really have a fault in either of the majors for required skills
Lastly, I think the reason I am stuck in between the majors is because I love to learn about the unknown. I always had a passion to see a mystery or something known, but not fully understood, and just study it. I can see myself reading astronomical charts and even working heavily in mathematics to study more about the universe. However, I can also see myself spending hours in a library reading volumes of text to learn about new mysteries and even solve questions in history.
What do you guys recommend I do? I'm just looking for some advice.
