Strange symptoms

Hi all, I have been having trouble with my back and lower body for many months now. But the thing is, my back pain has by and large reduced to near nothing, but I am having other troubles.

Main symptom:
  • Coldness and irritability in legs, which I would not describe as nurabness.
  • The coldness and irritability occurs in various parts of my legs. Sometimes it is buttocks and hamstrings, other times is wraps around and is nearly in my quaRAB (but not quite), then sometimes calves and feet.
  • It happens as soon as I sit, or if I stand still. It happens every day for most of the day. I do not sit much if at all now. I lie down, stand, or kneel to do work. Kneeling is not much better than sitting but it is better.
  • I have had sciatica once before, and it is nothing like that. It does not hurt as such and it is not piercing down my leg or anything like that.

History:
  • A few months ago, lack of core strength and bad posture lead to lower back pain, accompanied with tight and cold hamstrings
  • I had an inflamed back as well as piercing pain around L4/L5
  • Saw GP, had a catscan, slight bulge at L4/L5, but nothing major.
  • Saw physio, basically said sit up straight, stretch hamstrings. Did this plenty. I sit extremely straight now, i.e. have good posture, activating my core etc. I do lots of stretches anyway.
  • Saw osteo, she tried to help. She thinks the coldness cannot relate to a particular disc as it is all over the place. She thought the next obvious explanation would be a circulation problem, but I am very healthy. Also, it is not just coldness, but irritability, which is not explained. She thinks I have to see a neurologist because it doesn't make sense. I am booked in in a month.
  • Am going to see a Chiro next week.
  • I have been checked for diabetes and elevated inflammatory levels and both were negative.

About me generally:
  • One of the main frustrations is that I am extremely healthy. I eat perfectly and I play sport - running, football, cycling, swimming (and avoid jarring activities if I have back pain). I am a 22 year old male, weigh 80kg and am 183cm tall.
  • I do back exercises, I have tried pilates, I stretch often and properly, I have tried fish oil, glucosamine, magnesium, etc.
  • I do think stretching my hamstrings does help alleviate the problem a little. But only marginally - I can stretch 3 times a day every day, and yet I still cannot sit down without my legs going cold and irritating me.

Other points that may or may not be of relevance
  • I thought that the leg problem might be unrelated to my back problem. Sometimes when I have coldness and irritability in my legs I put on deep heat or voltaren cream on my lower back. I think it does alleviate the coldness and irritability, though I am a little uncertain. This leaRAB me to think that my leg problem stems from my back.
  • I have noticed lately that my bones crack more often and also I am probably more prone to lirabs going nurab if I sit still or lean on them (e.g. leaning on my arm). I have no idea if this is relevant or not.

My theory
  • What I think might be the explanation is that when I suffered poor back pain a few months ago and my core degenerated a lot, something got crossed in my body. Now, my back seems to be doing okay, but the other thing is stuck. I don't know what it is or could be, but that is my theory. Either that, or I have some degenerative disease, but I have no family history nor circumstances to suggest that.

If anybody on here has experienced or known of anybody who as experienced such a problem I would be eternally grateful to hear about it. Any comments will probably be more helpful than advice I have received from the medical profession so far.

Sorry to hear of your problem. I don't know if this will help or not. I have a bulging disc at L5/S1 on the left side. the right side is normal. I have absolutely no back pain. My pain is in my RIGHT buttock and in various places in my right leg. There is no real pattern to the pain, it can be anywhere. I also have constant burning in the soles of both my feet. I had nerve conduction studies done on my legs and was told it all comes from my painless back. Figure that out, I must be wired back to front or something. Anyway the pain will persist for months and go away (but never completely) for months. I find both Chiro and Physio helps. I hope you find an answer soon.
