I've been Post Op going on six months on the 12 of this month. The problem is I'm still having issues with sciatic pain in my left leg (pre op it was in both legs). I'm currently in PT and my therapist says that my thigh muscle is "strangling" my sciatic nerve, is this possible? She massaged my leg where the nerve is irritated and I just about fell off the table! She wants me to use moist heat at home but I don't know how to make a moist heat pack either do any of you have answers for me out there? I'm really curious about the strangling nerve though, sounRAB just a bit "off" to me. Thanks

I have a heating pad called an hydroculator heating pad which you boil on the stove - it gives off moist heat. You can also buy a heating pad in the pharmacy section that is for mosit heat.

I can't help o the strangling nerve thing. I suppose it could be possible though. Have you researched it by search engine?

For moist heat I fill a sock up with white rice (tie the end into a knot) and throw it into the microwave for a few minutes. If I want it really steaming, I add a little water to it. It smells like rice, but it sure works. If you do get it wet, you'll have to replace it in 2 days because it will begin to smell weird.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks ladies I appreciate your replies, I know the question about the muscle strangling the nerve seems very odd and hit me as quite strange even to me whose quite strange!LOL! I will give a looksee via the search engine when I can figure out how to phrase it! :D

Ha! Cheryl,

I did the search and found that it's called Piriformis Strangulation Syndrome. Now to find out what to do about it. Thanks for encouraging me to look it up I was just to believe that maybe my therapist was just looking for a reason to keep me coming to him!:( Drats, right when I thought I had this thing beat something else comes up!
