I have 3 BEV receivers, 2x 3100 & 1 PVR (forgot the model #). I had replaced one of the 3100's with the PVR a while back & threw it on a shelf.

Today I went to Rona, bought a digital cable splitter & connected the spare 3100 to an empty cable run in my basement with the intent of hooking it up to the TV I watch in the basement when I'm running on my treadmill.
Things worked ok, but I got no signal on the 3100.
I saw a program guide, but couldn't see any channels. Figuring the receiver had been deactivated at some point I called to reactivate it only to be told that there was a note on my account stating the customer service guy couldn't reactivate it & to call a different number for Expressvu which I called but was put on hold.
Did I do something wrong here?
Am I not allowed to do this?

You are using a cable splitter , instead of hooking up to the multi switch
The multi swith will have 2, or 3 inputs, and 4 outputs (most likely)
You will have to run another line to that switch
The box, seeing as it has been out of the stream (satellite signal) for an extended period, will need to get a "hit" from Bell
Plug it into the multiswitch, call, or do it online, and you will be good to go!

I have 2 lines coming into my house from my dual LNB dish outside.
I took 1 of the lines & put a 4 way splitter on it & connected the extra line that was in my basement to the splitter.
This is incorrect?

EDIT- I just noticed in another thread here that my 3rd one was deactivated & I have to call to activate them all. Crap.

The two lines coming into the house go into the switch (it can't be a cable splitter - it must be a satellite multiswitch). You will have a number of outputs from the switch, most likely 4. Each one of these outputs go to your receivers.

Then call Bell to resynch the receiver or you can do it yourself on their webpage.

The way you installed it has nothing to do with the message tey say was on your account...

Many possibilities:
-Verification departement might have called you to "verify the receiver and were unable to get that specific receiver verified, thefore got deactivated
-Verification departement called you many times to "verify" your receivers, but never got a response, or you told them you didn't want to, or were busy and after X attempt they deactivated all but 2 of your receivers
-You told them that this receiver was being used at a different location than the 2 other one
-At some point you called an mentionned that the receiver was not currently being used and the agent deactivated it

YOUR RECEIVER HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED BY THE SAT DEPARTEMENT!!! RESYNC ONLINE WOUDN'T WORK IN YOUR CASE...

What to do:
-Install your receiver correctly and make sure you do get a good signal (you can find out by pressing menu 6-1-1)
-Call 1-866-395-9994 Monday to friday between 10AM and 10PM (Eastearn Standard Time) or Saturday between 10AM and 10PM. Only the account holder or the co-user registered on the account could proceed the validation with them

What they will ask you to do:
-They will ask you to key in certain numbers on your remote and ask you certain information. They will need to go throught all 3 receivers

What is important to know:
-If one of the receivers is not validated on the call it ould autonatically be deactivated
-If a receiver gets deactivated du to the fact that it couldn't be validated on that call you won't be able to proceed to another validation before another 24 hours

Read the following thread, client had the same thing happen to him: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=75893

I think it had been deactivated as about 8 months ago the verification dept called to verify & since it wasn't hooked up we told them we couldn't give them the info.
I have since called & I think it works.

Also, what's the difference between a "Satellite 4 way splitter" & a multiswitch? The "Satellite 4 way splitter" works for me.

When the verification departement calls and is unable to verify a receiver it automatically gets deactivated...normally thy should have mentionned it to you even before starting the verifiction.

Even if you called, if you didn't get that departement and re-validated all the receivers, it's impossible for that receiver to have been re-activated. Once this departement deactivates a receiver customer service can not reactivate it, only that departement could

Do you have a good signal when you go to MENU 6-1-1?

If yes you are ready to call them and get it reactivated...

Now it the worst time to call, you will be on hold forever...

My suggestion...call a quarter to 10 the lines tend to be calmer at that time (At least that's how it was when I was in that departement)

Good Luck!

yeah, I called 4x today, one of the last times I called, I was waiting on speaker phone, when I got a human after waiting on hold for 20 minutes hit the button I THOUGHT would take them off speaker phone, but ended up hanging up on them!!
I did get through eventually & had them re activate it.
I think it's working now, haven't checked.
Thanks for all your help.

If it has been 8 months they first called they might call you soon to perorm another validation...

Did they verify all 3 receivers when they "reactivated"?

I thought I had this up & working using the "digital cable signal splitter" I bought from Rona, but I had intermittent reception.
Do I need the SW44 multi switch instead?
I have the dual LNB with 2 RG6's coming into my house 1 for each of my receivers & I want to hook up a third.

Correct, you can not split the signal from a lnb using a "regular" cable splitter before it enters the receiver. You need the unit or a version of it as mentioned earlier. The only way a regular splitter will work is if you sent the signal from a receiver to another tv also but, don't mind watching the same programs on each tv.

You don't need an SW44, as they are really expensive. You could buy a SW24 from MXMart.com

http://www.mxmart.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17&products_id=91&zenid=8d84a7b1b0330b54059ac0a625effa69

It would be much cheaper than an SW44, plus it's not a powered switch.

I have ordered form them in the past for switches and they are good quality.

You don't have the HD package, so you?

not if he only has the two lines coming in...otherwise there would be 4 lines coming in the house.

The Satelitte splitter is for a "Stacked System", this is not how Express Vu work.

Willise is right you just need a regular 4 Way Multiswitch.

Not necessarily, I have HD but only three lines coming into the house. However, I was just making sure before I told him to get an SW24. But You're right, you can't get HD programming with only two lines.

So sorry to revive an ancient thread, I really should have paid more attention to this!
You're right willise, I don't have hd & thanks so much for the link to that cheap SW24 switch, that saves me from having to go out today & buy one in this cold weather when I'm not feeling to hot to begin with!

I have 2 lines in for 2 3100's. I would like to go HD so and get either the 9242 or the 6141. Why do I need 3 (or 4) lines coming in..and how do I acheive this? Do I need a new dish?

now you have 2 lines from the LNBF pointing at 91 dgrees, this birds is 100% SD channels. going to HD will involve adding a second LNBF to your existing Dish if possible or replacing the dish if not.
then 2 lines from that new LNBF will go to an SW44 along with the 2 lines from the 91 LNBF. the switch has 4 outputs so you can connect 4 seperate tuners to this switch.

if you are adding 2 more tuners i would run all 4lines into the house and mount the switch there.
