Okay, so exactly eight days ago I was bitten on the fingers by a red tail boa. I immediately went to the doctor who scrubbed out the bites with Betadine scrub and gave me a tetanus shot and refampin shot. They also sent me home with a 10-day course of Augmentin. The first few days went okay and it seemed as though I'd avoided infection.
By the fourth day it was clear that one of my fingers had become infected. It was extremely swollen, red, and hot. I returned to the doctor who simply told me to give it time and let the antibiotics do their job.
Well, yesterday I woke up with a red line running from my swollen, red finger to my wrist. I also noticed tenderness in the lower part of my arm, right above my elbow and also down the outside part of my lower arm and in my wrist. I immediately made another appointment with my doctor.
By the time I got to my appointment I was very dizzy, weak, and the pain in my arm was much worse. If I even lightly touched the tender areas I wanted to scream. I had a fever of 99.3 and they sent me to the ER.
At the ER I ended up having muscle spasms in my entire body, my body was contorted so unnaturally is was terrifying. It was the most painful thing I had ever felt in my life, I was literally screaming out loud. They gave me some strong narcotics and some Valium and after a bit I was able to relax. They did bloodwork and everything was normal except for a slightly elevated white blood cell count. They sent me home with some Vicodin and told me to follow up with my doctor.
Today I have red lines and splotches all over my arm. It is excrutiating for me to even allow those parts of my arms to even touch soft fabric. I also have two lumps near my elbow (lymph nodes?) My doctor has no idea what is going on. I had no fever today so she is confused.
What could be causing this? The doctors are convinced it is not an infection and I'm terrified because the pain is getting worse and now my whole arm is so weak I can barely even lift one pound.
Please help!
