Strange coloring = sick fish?

I noticed some strange coloring on my Betta Fish and am not sure of what it means.

I've looked online for illnesses fish can get but what I've noticed isn't described within any of the illnesses.

He's a male, so I realize he's going to be colorful. I got him not too long ago, and since I've had him he's changed color. He was a pale peach color with barely any blue or red on him. Now he's a bright orange-pink-peach color with alot of dark blue, bright red, and even a bit of black.

However, the past few days I've noticed he's gotten this, metallic gold coloring right on top of where his gills would be, right behind his eyes. Before it was just a faded gold, but when I looked at him today, it's bright, metallic gold.

I'm not sure if this is part of him getting his color back, or if this is a sign of a problem. Any ideas?

betta's can change colour when they have poor water quality but they normally get duller not brighter so i would say you have a mature betta that is all but just in-case test the water quality for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate the first two should be at 0 and the nitrate should be as low as possible,
hope this helps

This sounds like a color change. The breeder i buy from had a marble male that changed completely until it was almost a year old!
Now there is a disease called velvet that is like a yellowish scummy type of look to the fish, but this really sounds like a color change and a nice one! Try and post a picture, if you can. The gold could mean he has some dragon mixed in him.
