I have a pain in my stomach on and off, and it hurts really bad. I went to my doc, found out it was acid ruflux. After six months the starting all over again, and this time I don't have any heartburn. Please I need your help!! Thanks!!

Sorry to hear about your discomfort and pain and sorry it came back!

For most of us there are specific triggers that make stomach discomfort and pain worse. For some it is dairy. For others glutten intolerance. Yet for others alcohol and coffee are no-nos. What likely happened or might have happened in your case is that you were very careful with your diet for a while, but began to slack off and relax your diet when your symptoms went away. It may take the stomach a while to become irritated again, and therefore you are experiencing symptoms again. Medicine can help the irritation heal and mask the symptoms, but the symptoms will come back if we don't make other changes. Acid reflux and heartburn tend to be chronic conditions for most of us. We have to learn to live with and manage the symptoms.

My suggestion would be to cut off the usual offenders for a week and see how you feel. A little Maalox or Gaviscon usually eases that pain and discomfort for me, particularly at bedtime. I would suggest keeping a food diary for a week or so and try to track your symptoms. You will be surprised how much information you gather when you begin to pay attention to what you eat.

Another suggestion is to eat early and not go to bed on a full stomach. Avoid coffee, alcohol and caffeine for a week or so and see what happens. These are all changes I have had to make to be able to live with reflux and no medications.

Hope you feel better soon.

I've had acid reflux off and on for over 10 years. If you have acid reflux, the pain would be in your esophogus as well as your gut, because the acid leeches out of your gut into the esophogus and is extremely painful. I've been taking prilosec for a long time, but not as much anymore. There are possible links to osteoporosis with this OTC drug if used frequently. I recently started using Maalox again - they have a new version out called Maalox Advanced for acid indigestion and heartburn. If you start to feel pain in your stomach, the best thing you can do is take medication right away before it gets into your esophogus, because thats when the pain really starts. Good luck and I hope your attacks remain infrequent! If it helps, its not an uncommon problem.

I forgot to post that taking an antiacid can sometimes alleviate the pain caused by acid reflux. A little bicarbonate of soda, Tumms or Gaviscon can temporarily help.
Chewing sugarless gum after eating also increases the flow of saliva and seems to speed up digestion for me.

Neither suggestion is going to cure the problem, but may bring you a bit of relief until your symptoms can be diagnosed and brought under control.

i started get very bad stomach pains nearly 10 years ago when i was about six months pregnant and i was told it was my babys feet under my ribs but the pain was really bad, after i had him i still kept getting the pains n still do now 10 years later it just comes from no where i could be just watchin tv or having my dinner or even asleep and it wakes me, the pain is unbearable sometimes and i get hot and struggle to breathand my upper stomach swells/bloats after it goes i feel weak and tired, the pain can come and then go half hour later and i might not get it again for a month or even 7 months then i might get it everyday for 5days and then not agen for a year. i have had it on and off fo 10 years and its really sore also my stomach where i get the pain by my ribs is always tender to touch. i have had scans xrays blood tests and nothing is showing up, no one knows what this could be im on tablets for acid and tablets for ibs and neither are working as i have the pain severel times since. please help thanks x

Hi Trace:

Have you had your gallbladder checked? Sometimes these symptoms come for gallbladder problems. Particularly the type that "come and go" as you describe. My mother had similar problems to yours and she had gallbladder disease. They could never pick it up on tests, but her problems went away after she had surgery. I am not saying this is your problem but worth looking into it.

What alleviates pain for me is taking a little bit of antiacid the minute the pain starts. For whatever reason, liquid antiaciRAB work a lot better for me than tablets. A little bicarbonate of soda in water or a little gaviscon or Maalox. It is better to take the remedy right away rather than wait for the esophagus to become more irriatated.

Hope you feel better soon.

Has anyone got any advice on gastritis as well as acid reflux? I have terrible burning like pain all the time though tests only showed a bit of gastritis. The gastro doesnt think anything is coming up so I cant understand why I have this pain. Stuff was coming up until recently when I was sick a lot now I seem to have more pain, when eating too and it wont go. Medication doesnt seem to help which is PPIs and Sucralfate. The gastro thinks it will get better but I have had it for months and the pain is really bad I cant think.
