stock tires

How good or (how fair) are the stock tires on the 2007 S50. I want to do some highway cruising and wondered, what about the durability of the tire? I always had tires that were tubeless. If I catch a unfortunite situation of a flat on the road I cannot plug the tire to get home. What I am asking is this a tire that goes flat easily or is it fairly tough tire. I do watch every aspect of the road when I ride, but there is the unseen impliment that can puncture a tire. Some input would help me whether to keep the tires or replace them with better tires. Thanks to all for the help.:301::huh:

They suck, and will wear out soon enough. You might get 8000 miles out of them. When they go, Metzeler ME880s last forever but cost, while Dunlop 404s are a very good low-cost option. Either one will give you much better handling, a smoother ride, and more tread life. But I don't know that any of the three are more resistant to punctures than the other two.
If you are that worried about it, you can send your wheels off and have them sealed for tubeless tires (about $50 plus shipping). A google search will turn up a couple different companies that do it. I've considered doing it myself, but have neer quite gotten around to it.

My oem tires were actually pretty good. I got just over 12,000 miles till I changed them, not so much because of tread remaining, but they started to have bumps, especially on the front tires. I switched to the Metzeler 880's and the major difference I have noticed is the "tar snakes" in the road are not as squirrelly. Tread life???, if I get another 12,000+ miles on the 880's I will be happy, but for now, I was quite pleased with the oem tires and their life. As to flats, I think the best fix is to have a cell phone to your road hazard company, and have it towed to a dealer to have it fixed. Not any good "on the road" solutions to fixing a blown tube in a tubed tire. Even the sealers that are available just for motorcycles have a limited effectiveness for tubed tires, (read their fine print). Knock on wood, 30+years of riding on tubed tires, and
not one flat yet!
Good Luck.
