Stock market php script?

hello, First of all I just want to say that I do not know anything about stock market. I want to build a php/mysql script that works a bit like stock exchange/stock market its basically for game "we can say" I'm pretty good in these languages but the problem is that I have no idea how the stock market works. I would like for one of you to explain me how it works, the information I need to build this script
