Steroid Injections Cont'd....

I was finally able to speak with my PM doc's assistant about the injection scheduled for tomorrow. I had asked to reschedule and have it done with sedation, but they can't schedule them until after Aug 1st, at which point my insurance will have ended. So.......based on my conversation with him and his reassurances, I am going thru with the injection without sedation tomorrow. I am still a little nervous, but do feel better after speaking with him. He said it may feel like a "pinch" is all and I should be fine after that. He said the Dr is quick and really good at what he does. I'll be sure and take a pain pill shortly before I have the procedure done. Hopefully that will help. Wish me luck!

P.S. I am experiencing a lot of swelling in my left leg and foot, along with bruising around my foot/ankle area. Is this normal with a T12 - L1 herniation? At 3 weeks post injury I thought I would feel better, but today was really bad and the swelling seems to be getting worse. I will speak with the Dr tomorrow, I'm just curious if anyone else experiences this? I am elevating my leg and icing it, but it doesn't seem to help much.

Didn't you say that your leg was injured in the accident? I wonder if you don't have something else going on?? I can't think of a reason why a herniated disc would cause your foot to be bruised or for there to be any swelling in your leg.

Actually if you look at a dermatome chart and you can find them online, the nerve roots for T12-L1 would affect (on most people) the area around the back of the waist, slightly lower, down into the inside of the upper thigh. The dermatomes for the ankles and feet are from L4 on down...like the bottom of the foot is S1.

Be sure to show this to the doctor tomorrow and then let us know what he says. I am curious what it might be. Maybe it's just something I've never heard of or read about...obviously there are many things I do not know!!!:dizzy:

Yes, I fell and others fell on top of me. I explained this to each dr that I've seen and asked both the Ortho and PM about the bruising. The Ortho said it wasn't a bruise, but was blood settling (isn't that what a bruise is - and where is the blood coming from?) and the PM said it was nothing to worry about. I asked the PM if pain could also be associated with a sciatic problem and he said "no." How could he know this for sure?? Everything I've read sounRAB like it could be a contributing factor.

My entire leg is super sensitive to touch, the ligaments surrounding my knee feel super tight and extremely painful, the muscles in my leg are extremely sore and tight, when I walk my leg is stiff, I can't bend my knee (although I can bend it when I sit), I have intermittent nurabness and tingling and today I've experienced shooting, stabbing pain. Additionally, the pain in my lower back is increasing.

My MRI report states that I also have a mild facet arthropathy with a small pair of facet effusions at L4-5. Could this be causing some of the pain??? I will definitely discuss my concerns with the dr and make him listen to me. If he is rude or dismissive I will speak up. It's been 3 weeks now and I need some answers. If he can't give them to me someone else will.
