Steroid Injection Questions

I had my first ever steroid injection today. The epidural medication they put in felt great, although it only lasted for about 30 minutes. I was told it would last 2-4 hours. So, I had a very brief moment of relief before the pain began to return, and now I am in unbelievable pain. I know this is normal, but the pain is the worst on the right side, and they did the injection on the left. Also, I am feeling it very strongly in my mid back, whereas I usually only feel pain in the bottom half of my body. I also feel like I am going to throw up. I have felt nausiated before due to the pain, but this is different, like I might actually throw up. My vicodin isn't helping at all. Does anyone have any insight?

Yes, unfortunately it is painful. Although I must say that I am suprised the pain has set in so quickly for you which may be a good sign that the medication is already working. I will pray that this is the case. I normally ended up with elevated pain levels the day after.

Did they tell you to ice after the procedure? This will help with the inflammation. I recommend staying away from heat for the first 48 hours if you can.

I would recommend that you call them back tomorrow if you are still nauseous tomorrow and maybe they can call in something to help lesson the symptoms for you. If you are having a headache with the nauseous, I would call tonight personally.

Good luck and I pray that you feel better soon.

Hey Pepper!

Thanks so much for responding. I felt better today. The pain was still there pretty significantly, but I was not nauseas. They did tell me to try ice, but said nothing about heat, and I actually have been using the seat warmer in my car. Oops! I also remerabered today that I still have anti-nausia pills left over from my pregnancy. They are probably expired though....

I hope you are having a pain free day!
