Stereo system problem. Vocals are being drowned out!?

I've hooked my ipod to my old mini stereo system (sony). THe instrumental sound is as clear as day, however the vocals are very low and drowned out. As if they were being played in a bathtub or something. Very annoying. Perfect sound except for the vocals. Help!

The cable I'm using works, I've tried with other stereos. And this Stereo system works properly when playing a CD. I cannot understand what the problem is with playing from my ipod. ):
 
Its your cable or jacks try cleaning them (female jacks) with rubbing alcohol Check stereo / mono settings Then try a different stereo system
