I bought a cheap walmart sub and a cheap amp, the sub is 500watts dual 12" and the amp is 600watts also dual,
Well my friend has the same set up but he has two 500 watt subs and a 600watt amp, and his sound great, but when i have just my one sub hooked up it is more quite then my stock speakers,
I am using a 8 gauge wire for the power
And i am wondering what guage speaker wire i should use also

Zach, you have no clue to what your talking about. Why should this guy listen to anything you have to say when you do not even know how to wire a speaker to an amp. Go learn about what your talking about, you constantly give bad advice.
Listen to the first guy, and check to make sure you do not have the negative from amp going to the positive on the sub, and the positive from the amp going to the negative on the sub. I have heard what it sounds like first hand, or I should say what it doesn't sound like. Since there is barely anything coming from it at all.

Have you tried turning up your base? If you have a Base leveler (knob) turn it up a little bit. It also might be your wiring. I had the same problem about a week ago. I have 2 12" Kicker CRV's with a 1200 Watt MTX Audio Jack Hammer. It sounded way more quiet than usual. So I just unscrewed the wires on the amplifier and pushed them in a little more and screwed them back in, No it bumps pretty hard. Try that, should work. They usually come loose every now and agin.
