Staying still during MRI

Recently, I've been having pain and anxiety which has made it very difficult for me to take deep breaths/hold my breath. This means that I've been a real annoyance to technicians who tell me to hold my breath during diagnostic tests so that they can get a clear image. I will be having an abdominal MRI w/ contrast on Wednesday. MRI are so important. How can I get through this without fidgeting and being able to hold my breath without putting my hand on my nose?

Close your eyes before entering the tube, keep them closed the whole time. Try to take slow breaths and slow exhales during the MRI, helps keep tummy from going up and down. When they ask you to hold your breath, take a slow deep breath and then a slow exhale.

Rebreathing in a paper sack just prior to the MRI will help calm the sympathetic nervous system, controls anxiety.
