My contract with verizon is up in a few months and I'm trying to figure out what to do.
I am happy with verizons coverage and satisfied with the phone that I have (LG Dare) since it's the first multimedia type phone that I've ever had and the camera is great. I have the 450 min package (my actual usage averages around 300-400 mins) and have the 250 text message pack for an extra $5. I use about $3-$6 of data/web browsing a month. On this phone you pay per megabyte (VZW is phasing this out)
My bills are around $57-$63 every month with taxes and whatnot.
So the reason I'm posting is I'd like to get a blackberry or some smart phone where I can get my email and would like the flexibility to do a little light web browsing without having to pay $30 extra a month for this which is of course required of any smart phone and many multimedia phones with VZW or Sprint. I want to stay at $60 a month or less.
I'm tempted to switch to Boost or perhaps even Virgin although it looks like Virgin does not allow pop access with their blackberries so that may be out. Sprint seems to be the same price as verizon and doesn't seem to be any real advantages other than the free calling starts at 7pm.
I'm leaning towards Boost but I'm a little nervous about switching to that provider. They charge you up front for the phone- a lot, $250 but for a flat rate of $60 including taxes. I'm concerned that the voice coverage may not be comparable to verizon and that customer service and support will be lacking compared to verizon or sprint.
There isn't any reason I can't sign a contract. I don't exactly fit into the Boost mobile target market of urban youth. But I'm disgusted by the high cost of mobile service nowadays. I worry that because you pay outright for the phone and because it only works with Boost that Boost has no incentive to deal with any problems that arise with it and I know some people that have had major problems with their blackberries.
Another reason that I'm concerned is that while Boost is supposedly on the sprint network, because different phones are used, I'm worried that the coverage may be degraded or that somehow boost subscribers get lower priority with regards to data and reliability.
So to recap, Looking to get a small amount of web access and be able to read my emails out of the office for a total of $60 or less a month.
Above all though, I do need reliable voice coverage.
Switch to boost or stay with vzw or some other ideas???
