Stay out of Newport RI

Out of states plates you will get a ticket, I know of 6 bikers so far all from mass except one from Florida, no one was speeding or riding crazy. They all got tickets.

Come to Newport and find out......you think the cop knows where your EPA stamp is? do you know where it is. They are not gonna lay on the ground to try and see behind the pipe or under the pipe etc...
They absolutely 100 percent will write you the ticket and then its up to you to prove your not guilty. I know first hand only smoke I'm blowing is truthful smoke. Iv'e been fighting for our rights to ride since 1970's currently its my job to know whats going on in our riding area.

You get stopped for speeding and flip your badge at this cop just doing his job. He gives you a ticket anyway and now you come here a whine and piss and moan about how unprofessional HE is ? Maybe you should pay attention to your speed and not get distracted with your

"funning conversation with my Wife and we were laughing"

I'm glad you got a speeding ticket and commend the other cop for doing his job. You whine about how this officer makes "the rest of us look bad out here", after reading your post it seems like YOU are the one that makes your profession look bad.

That is just fine with me that you're glad about it. But in "Law Enforcement" we share a commend trend of having some kind of discretion when handing out tickets to other law enforcement officers or Judges for that matter.... The mere mention of me trying to explain why I ended up speeding to the trooper in the first place wasn't so that "YOU" could throw it back into my face. What, I was just trying to tell the trooper was that it does happen to people. I wasn't driving reckless or switching from lane to lane cutting off other vehicles in my way. "YES" I was speeding and not by very much. Another thing is that I have given a lot of breaks to members of the law enforcement community.... That including a member of the DEA. By the same token, I thing that it would of been nice if that trooper did the same for me.... Mind you, I know that not everyone fuctions the same and his discretion was not doing so. But along with the ticket, I did not need the lectures from him! The last thing, I want to say is that I did pay for the ticket or summons issued to me!!!! But, I see that "YOU" went the deep end with this and that's ok, my friend. It's all good!!!!

If you don't like people like me (that don't have the luxury of having a badge) throwing your post back in your face, maybe you should get a clue and not advertise to the public that you and your other LEO friends do that.

Agreed. At some point ABATE, AMA or one of the MC rights organizations will have to take on the EPA modified exhaust law if someone hasn't already. Motorcycle and the auto makers or aftermarket exhaust manufacturers do not make an EPA stamped OEM or replacement exhaust for every vehicle on the road. If you happen to own/drive one of these vehicles and your exhaust system fails you have no choice but to violate the law or park the vehicle and use it as an ornament.

The real issue here is selective enforcement or "profiling" - bikes vs. cars. I had this discussion with a MN State trooper in Sturgis last year, he basically admitted they probably would not check a car for an EPA exhaust violation but because a bikes exhaust is visible it is much easier to visually see when an exhaust is not stock.

As far as the manufacturers not offering a OEM/Aftermarket EPA compliant muffler, he acknowledged it is a problem that could be challenged and beat in court. That being said he would still be obligated to write the violation.

Bottom line is we are still behind the 8 ball if we own older iron. There needs to be some kind of reasonable exemption.

I know I'm pissing in the wind here but the MC community brought this on ourselves.

I find this a very interesting post.. I am a CA rider - Last May, I rode with the www.rftw.org. After the run, wife and I spent two weeks in DC, seeing the sights. Then rode up NJ Turnpike thru CT and into Newport. spent the day there, parked several times rode around the area enjoying the sights - ate two meals there - never had a problem at all AND I had CA plates... maybe I caught them on a slow day?? After that we rode MA>VT and around the lakes and back to CA - Every where we went, we were treated with respect and kindness. I expected trouble in DC and up the NJ Turnpike and around the City, Nothing... Great riding...

YOU are really bent on giving lectures here!!!! There is no secret thing knowing that LEO give each other this special treatment.... DUE, it was just a violation of a "Speeding Ordnance," that cames with a fine get a grip with yourself. Maybe, if YOU were to go throught an "POLICE ACADEMY" then maybe YOU would have the "LUXURY" and the clue is "Brotherhood!" Just like there is a Brotherhood in the biker world. So, there is even a bigger Brotherhood in the police world. Which obviously "YOU" don't understatnd anything about.
