Starting Tomato Seeds Outdoors?

Hello,
I have some tomato seeds from Baker Creek Co. (rareseeds.com), Pink Icicle and Chocolate Stripes, and was wondering about the starting methods. I know that the best way is to start in the peat pots or cell trays, under a grow light for 6 to 8 weeks. But I live in Houston, Texas where the weather at this time of year is constantly 65-80 degrees. I was wondering if the seeds would thrive outside if I put them outside right after germination. Or if I should just bite the bullet and go buy a fluorescent light fixture today.....
Thanks for any and all answers!
